Fill your town with Jesus

I just finished reading John Piper’s solid book about being born again called Finally Alive.  In his last chapter, he applies the doctrine by calling us to do our part to lead people to Jesus that they might be born again.  He writes:

When the apostles were put on trial in Jerusalem, the hight priest said, “You have filled Jerusalem with your teaching” (Acts 5:28).  That is what I dream for the churchs of my city.  If all the Christians were talking about Christ, and giving out literature about Christ, and sending e-mails about Christ, and inviting people to church for Christ, and being lavishly generous to others for Christ, then someone might say, “Those Christians have filled the city with their teaching.”  May it be so.

Do we dream of filling our towns with Jesus?  How might we do it?  What are we waiting for?

Thought-provoking post. I’d definitely agree that if Christians across America and the world could start truly living for Christ, revival would break loose! With regards to specific strategies, I’ll give some.

I live in a very liberal, secular, and irreligious community in MA, and here, any defense we make of our Christian faith is politically incorrect and insulting. Nonetheless, to truly show how Christ is working in our hearts, we need to love these people intensely. I can say that personally, I’ve been attacked by friends for becoming Christian and all the while, God continuously helped me provide a bold but polite response. Now, even though they aren’t Christian, they’re much more respecting and one of my friends is even going to church now.

It’s amazing to see the power of love. Without doubt, people going into apologetic can win over the minds of the lost and help bring them to Christ, but the ultimate step to salvation is to recognize the love that is the basis of the cross. It’s about recognizing this saving love – this passion of Christ, that as you say gives us a passion for God and compassion for people. I pray that we can each show this love in our communities and help reach the lost with it.

It was great seeing your blog – I’ll be sure to keep track of your posts. Please check out mine if you have time (http://americanconservative01.wordpress.com/)

    God bless.

I agree. It is by our love leading to good works that we earn a hearing for our message. They may not like the message, but our lives should attract them. That is the message of I Peter, and part of the way the early church changed their pagan culture. Our situation today is very similar to then.
