Sing! Hymnal

Getty Music and Crossway have released a new hymnal with a great mix of old and new hymns for the church, family, and individual to sing.  New hymns include songs from Getty Music, City Alight, and Sovereign Grace Music.  Most of the new hymns our church sings are in this hymnal, making it a great resource for us.  I received my copy on Friday, and enjoyed an hour paging through it, reading and singing rich lyrics that raise the heart to worship.

They also have a spiral version that lays flat and includes the chords.  Just ordered two of those for our guitar and piano players.  I’m excited to have simpler music versions that we will be able to use as we lead our church in worship.

Their website has a page that not only allows you to see what hymns are included but also allows you to listen to a simple piano rendition to help you learn the melody.  As I was paging through the hymnal, I thought that would be a nice feature for the songs I didn’t know, and then I found it!  Super helpful.

This new hymnal is going to be a great new resource for our small church, and I encourage you to check it out.

My God Is All I Need

At our VBS a few weeks ago, we taught the children the kids song, “My God Is So Big,” which CityAlight embedded in their song “My God Is All I Need.” That Sunday we introduced CityAlight’s song, and when we came to “My God Is So Big” we had the kids lead us with the motions. A great way to get the kids involved in the worship service. And great lyrics to encourage all of us.

Here the Hallelujahs Roar

City Alight has five new songs out, and here is one of them. This one looks forward to the return of Christ and the wonderful blessings we will enjoy with Him. It is an upbeat celebration of our future with Christ. The words are spot on, and it is easy to sing (and play on the guitar). I introduced it to our church this past week, and have enjoyed listening to it at home as well.

How Long, O Lord?

Our church is working through some of the Psalms this summer. This Sunday, we come to Psalm 13 with its fourfold “How long?” lament. And this new song goes right along with it. We don’t have many lament songs to sing, so I am excited to introduce it to our church. And perhaps it will meet you where you are too.

The MP3, lyrics, lead sheets, and various music options can be found on the Getty Music website here.

Sing

Here is a nice new song by Sovereign Grace Music that challenges us to respond to God’s many blessings with singing. Because of all that God has done for us – we must sing! Has He given us life and breath? Does He help you in your trials? Has Jesus saved you? Then join all of creation and sing!

Christ Our Wisdom

Here is a great new song by Sovereign Grace Music that looks to the wisdom of Christ in the midst of our suffering. With Biblical lyrics that teach the mind and touch the heart and a modern hymn format that is singable and playable, it would be a great song to consider introducing to your church (I know I am). Or add it your playlist for your own encouragement (already done).
